Communication Initiative Article on the BNHR
The Border Network for Human Rights (BNHR) was launched with the goal of
stopping abuse against Mexican immigrants on the United States-Mexico border and
demanding justice, equality, and human rights for these immigrants once they
have moved to the United States. Immigrants who have been trained to act as
local organisers take action in their communities to pursue human rights-based
awareness-building, networking, advocacy, and communication.

La Jornada Article on the BNHR
Imagine the border between Mexico and the United States. Cyclone fence. Cement.
Abandoned train cars. Empty factories. Dollar stores. And a group of immigrants
marching down the street. Their shouts: “No somos terroristas” (We are not
terrorists!) “¡El pueblo unido jamás será vencido!” (The people united will
never be defeated!) Suddenly, a Border Patrol truck appears and... blocks
traffic to allow the immigrants to pass by. News1
The Ford Foundataion Article "Close to Home: Education, Organizing and
Documentation"
Gathered around a pair of weathered blue benches in the dusty courtyard of a
Berino,N.M. trailer park, the members of a local human rights committee tell
their story: The Border Patrol used to come here every day. They used to come
into the yard, into our homes. No warning, no warrant. The people would run,
terrorized. The children were very afraid. Then we heard from a social worker
about The Border Network for Human Rights and decided to set up our committee.
The day we hung up our sign, The Border Network for Human Rights: Reporta Abusos
de la Migra, Policia, Aduanas y Otras, the Border Patrol stopped coming. They
still drive by, but they don’t come in
